The regular season comes to a close with Season Championship night at Hilltop Speedway as another full house of fans that included Track Chaplain Jerry Reed and his wife Ruth for the first time this season as he gave the invocation and thanked the fans for their prayers during his recent health problems. Last weeks Holmes Tire Late Model winner, Doug Drown, started on the pole of the feature with Dave Liles alongside and it took a lap for Drown to pull away from Liles and secure the lead. Fourth starting Charlie Duncan would move past Liles on lap six with Wayne Maffett Jr. and Dave Hornikel knocking Liles back to fifth on the next circuit. Points leader Steve Prince started third and had slipped back to sixth as his goal with a 24 point advantage over Hornikel at the start of the night, was stay close to Hornikel. As Drown and his Trenchless Technoligies, UTI, DJ Miller owned #1dj was expanding his lead, Duncan, Maffett Jr., and Hornikel were working each other good for second. As Hornikel was running the extreme top of turn three and four on lap eight, Don Conley was slowly going to the pits and Hornikel’s car made contact with Conley, and suffered a flat tire and ripping the back spoiler off the #71. He would continue but would drop out later in the race and Prince would then lock up the crown. In the last half of the feature, George Lee would move into fourth in front of Liles and challenge Maffett Jr. for third, who would deny Lee of that spot and made his run at Duncan for second on the last lap but fell short. For Drown of Wooster, it would be his fourth win of the season and his 18th career win at Hilltop. Drown, Liles who finished fifth, and Prince were the heat winners.
Jimmy Smith won the Dash to start on the pole of the TSMA main and would set the pace for the opening five circuits of the race until third starting Kevin Morehouse would take control. As that was happening, Fast Qualifier Doug Drown got around Robin Duston for third as first time visitor Dan Davis ran fifth. Drown would power past Smith with eight laps to go and chase after the Service Welding & Supplies, Intrega Shocks, and American Racer Tire #28 of Morehouse, who had built up a comfortable lead. Morehouse of Hanover, had locked up the championship just buy showing up, won for the 7th time this year and 32nd all time at Hilltop. Drown would finish second for the second week in a row to the ‘Logger’ as Smith finished a season best third with Davis and Duston filling out the top five. Matt Samples, Norm Aronhalt and Hilton Eppley topped the heats as Ty Samples claimed the last chance race.
Heat winners Brandon Gardner and John Wilson started on the front row of the Street Stock main but before the first lap of the race was finished, the second starting row of Bob Daugherty and Jeremy Dickerson made contact that sent Daughterty to the pits to change a flat and Dickerson to the tail for causing the caution. On the restart, Gardner of Perrysville, jumped into the lead with points leader Kenny Daughriety Jr. taking second from Wilson. Daughriety Jr. had a ten point cushion over Bob Chilcote for the Championship when the night started, stayed close to the RowTac Inc., Innovative Graphics, and Team GLR #g27 of Gardner, but could never make the run to get by. Gardner would win his second main of the year and it also would be his 32nd all time win on the ‘Hill’, tying him with Morehouse for the most wins. Daughriety’s second place run gives him his first Hilltop crown as Wilson took third. With the help of a couple of mid race cautions, Daugherty stormed back to take fourth in front of Chilcote.
Billy Joel’s song ‘Pressure’ would have been appropriate for the Atom’s Pest Control Truck Championship drive as only six points separated the top three drivers starting the night as David Potts (367), Kevin Potts (364) and Jack Large (361). Jack Large would finish second as David Potts ended up fourth in the first heat putting them in the third and seventh starting positions in the feature while Kevin Potts won the second heat to start outside front row. At the drop of the green flag for the feature Jack Large spun going into turn one to bring out the caution and go to the tail. Working his way back up through the field and getting back up to fourth on lap eight, Large would make contact with a couple of trucks and go sliding into the infield but kept going and lose three spots. Mean while up front, Kevin Potts was trying to hold off a pesky Mitch Caskey and with two laps to go, succumbed to the Bishop Tire Service #14. For Caskey of North Lawrence, it would be his first win of the year while unofficially Kevin Potts’ second place run would be good for the championship over son David Potts who drove to a fourth place finish behind Jerry Gardner as Kenny Duncan rounded out the top five. John Large was the winner of the first heat.
Second heat winner, Killbuck’s Terry Adkins went flag to flag in the Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stock feature to win his seventh feature of the year aboard the #49. First heat winner, Ernest Fortune, applied early race pressure to Adkins and then hold off a late run by Brett Adkins for second. Blain Markey ran a strong fourth while Brad Hensel worked his way from 8th to fill out the top five. Points Leader Gary Hensel Jr. finished 12th to win the Championship unofficially by eight points over Steve Miller. Jordan James won the third heat as Michael Rose notched the last chance win.
Dillyn Wyer of Philo won his second Mini Wedge main in a row after taking the lead from Blake Morris on the second lap. Charity Bubeck finished second as Donovan Dickerson’s third place finish locked up the track championship for him. Hannah Rose finished fourth after hitting a retaining tire and doing a 360 spin on the first lap but never stopped. Jose Lillibridge ran fifth. Taylor Huggins and Phil Bubeck made contact on the back stretch on lap three that ended up with Huggins going nose first into the wall. She was transported to the hospital but was back at the track before the races were over with a couple of bruises. Morris and Wyer were the heat winners.
The Cruisers made their second appearance at Hilltop Speedway with Loudonville’s Tony Cline sweeping the night by winning the heat race and out front all the way in the feature aboard the Mid-Ohio Graphics and Loudonville Tire #67,
Powder Puff wins went to Tiffany Foss in the Mini Stocks, Vanessa Leyda in the Late Models, Jessica Freytag topped the Modifieds as Shanna Spearman won the Street Stocks and Carlie Brinker paced the Trucks.

The tenth night of racing this year at Hilltop Speedway was dominated by five drivers returning to victory lane on Driver’s Autograph night. Following hot laps and Holmes Tire Late Model time trials, the pits were opened up to the fans to get autographs, pictures, balloons, and candy from their favorite drivers. The fans then were treated to another action packed night of racing as the Tri State Modifieds kicked the feature action off with Rory Reed setting the pace for the first two laps before third starting Kevin Morehouse slid past Reed for the lead. Doug Drown moved into second on lap five and put some pressure on Morehouse for the top spot. Those two would separate themselves from the rest of the field for the last half of the feature as Reed, Norm Aronhalt, Hilton Eppley, Larry Kugel, Darrick Hubbard, and Robin Duston raced hard for a top five finish. Aronhalt would take third for good at the halfway mark as Reed held off every move Eppley tried for fifth with Kugel on their rear bumpers. Back up front, Drown tried every line he could but could not reel in the Morehouse Logging, Mark Rice Excavating, Diamond Race Car #28 of Morehouse. For the Hanover driver, and points leader, it was his sixth win of ‘11 and his 31st overall at Hilltop Speedway, tying him with Brandon Gardner (Street Stocks) with the most at the track since 2006. Reed, Eppley and Morehouse topped the heat races. Vic Hottinger made a last lap pass on Jeff Votaw to win the Last Chance event. Matt Samples took a big tumble in the second heat coming out of turn four to bring out the red flag. He was ok but bent up the #44 badly.
Flagman Eddie Frederick had not even stopped waving the green flag for the start of the Holmes Tire Late Model main when he had to grab the red flag as fourth starting Justin Chance flew over the turn two guardrail, stayed up right and smacked a tree. As the safety crew got to Chance, he backed the car away from the tree, drove the #01 down the path behind the back stretch, went to the pits to have the nose of the car pulled out and returned to the track on the tail and received the biggest applause of the night from the fans. As the field lined back up, Dash winner Jason Flory led the pack but Wooster’s Doug Drown used the high groove coming out of turn four on the first lap to swipe the lead away and then those two would set a torrid pace the rest of the way. Drown, determined not to finish second again, kept the UTI, Trenchless Technoligies, DJ Miller owned #1dj on the highside as Flory stayed close but could not make a run back on Drown. Fast Qualifier Cody Parker kept Thomas Baker at bay for third as Kristin Flory held off a late charge by points leader Steve Prince for fifth. Chance came back to take ninth after his wild ride. Keith Tish and JR Gentry claimed the heat wins.
Heat winners Bob Daugherty and Todd Swim started on the front row of the Street Stock feature but it quickly became a one man show as Daugherty hooked up in the low groove and left the field (no pun) in the dust. Swim was left to fend off points leader Kenny Daughriety Jr., who showed his nose to Swim several times but could never get by. Bob Chilcote powered past Brandon Craver on lap four for fourth as 12th starting Jeremy Dickerson took fifth on lap eleven from Craver. For Daugherty of Mansfield, it was his fourth win of the season aboard the Char’s Cars, Met’s Machine Shop, McKenzie Concrete #21d.
Killbuck’s Terry Adkins and his #49 machine led flag to flag of the Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stock main for his sixth win of the season. The battle for second was highly competitive all race long as Jason King fought off every challenge of points leader Gary Hensel Jr. and Chris Priebe, as they finished in that order with Michael Rose filling out the top five in the feisty feature that saw a couple of black flags and a couple of crinkled fenders. King, Adkins, and Rose won the heats.
In six of the eight features raced so far this year in the Atom’s Pest Control Trucks, it has been a Large or a Potts in victory circle and that trend continued as Coshocton’s Jack Large parked the Performance Auto #07 in victory circle for the third time. Leading all the way, Jack Large was chased by points leader David Potts and his dad Kevin Potts. After running second for the first half of the feature Steve Large faded to take fourth with Mitch Caskey rounding out the top five. Jack and Steve were Large in the preliminary races.
Dillyn Wyer of Philo was the only driver of the night that had not won a feature this year, or at all, but he changed that by leading all the way for the Mini Wedge victory. Blake Morris took home second as Tristen Lillibridge finished third with Donovan Dickerson, Josey Lillibridge, Hannah Rose and Taylor Huggins finishing in that order just inches apart. Wyer and Morris topped the heats.
Next Saturday, August 20th will be Season Championship night with Double Points at stake with all divisions titles still up for grabs. Gates open at 4 pm as racing will commence at 7:30 pm.

HILLTOP SPEEDWAY LOSES TO RAIN FOR THE 8th TIME

Just after the gates swung open for the night, heavy rain hit the Hilltop Speedway and soaked the grounds, forcing the cancellation of the nights races. For those holding wrist bands from Saturday, they can use them on August 6th and 13th. Next week-end the Ohio Outlaw Motorsports take over Hilltop Speedway for a two day show on Friday and Saturday nights with Motorcycles and Quads in action with no Stock Cars racing. The next race for the Stock Cars will be on August 6th with the Mini Wedge Invitational on tap plus the Holmes Tire Late Models, Tri-State Modifieds, Street Stocks, Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stocks and Atom’s Pest Control Trucks all on the racing card. It will also be Kid’s Night with a lot of prizes and games for all the Kids. The Driver Autograph night is now set for Saturday, August 13, as all divisions will be in action. Season Championship’s races will take place on Saturday, August 20th to end up the regular season at Hilltop Speedway. Ohio Outlaw Motorsports will have another two day show on August 27th and 28th and hold their Rutherford Memorial race on September 24th. The Week-end on the Hill featuring the Mini Stock Nationals is set for Saturday and Sunday October 1st and 2nd. Watch for more details about the Mini Stock Nationals coming soon. Another typical night of racing filled the fans appetite for great racing at Hilltop Speedway on Guerne Heights Drive Inn night as Galena’s Rolly Heyder pressured Kevin Potts for the first ten laps of the Atom’s Pest Control Truck invitational, before powereing past Potts for the lead and then hold off dash winner Potts and Jack Large the rest of the way and put the Jack Maxton Parts, Line-X Liners, and Katz Tires #10 in victory lane for the first time this season. Heyder pocketed the $500 winners share as he snapped the six race win streak of a Potts or a Large in victory lane but they dominated the rest of the top five. Potts kept the door closed on Jack Large to take second as fast qualifier John Large was fourth followed by Steve Large. Ken Duncan and David Potts won the heat races. The feature was 22 laps in memory of Gail ‘Wally’ Wallace who passed away earlier this season and that was his truck number.
Eric ‘Spud’ Myers roared into the lead at the drop of the green flag of the Holmes Tire Late Model main with fellow heat winner George Lee in tow. Myers’ lead would last only two laps as Lee quickly went to the high groove and scoot past Myers and then motor off the rest of the race for the second win of the year in the Cowen Truck Line, LSI #61. Caution flags were the only thing that would slow the Loudonville driver down as everyone was watching the race for second with Norm Aronhalt, Jason Flory, Wayne Maffett Jr. Myers, and Justin Chance going wheel to wheel. A lap 14 caution that saw Flory get tangled with the lap car of Brian Giaugue and get sent to the tail. On the restart, Maffett Jr. slid past Aronhalt for second with Chance trying the high side of Aronhalt and for the last ten laps they put on an outstanding battle for second as Myers would drop out with six to go. At that point, Aronhalt used the high side to reclaim second from bottom of the track running Maffett Jr. Chance was running high and with three circuits to go, overtook Maffett Jr. for third as Keith Tish filled out the top five.
Much like the Late Model main, the Tri State Modified feature saw Rory Reed out duel Darrick Hubbard for the first two laps but Warsaw’s Norm Aronhalt motored around both on lap three and then set a torrid pace to the finish for his first Modified win this season aboard the Larry Reed owned Ports Petroluem & Lightning Chassis # r88. A lap 11 yellow bunched the field back up as Aronhalt would pull away but Reed, Kyle Brown, Hubbard and Matt Samples was in a dog fight for second. The high flying Samples got around Brown for third with seven to go and four laps later flew by Reed for second with Brown edging out Hubbard for fourth. Reed, Hubbard, Larry Kugel, and Aronhalt won the heats as Gary Clark topped the last chance race
Todd Swim and Kenny Daughriety Jr. won the Street Stock heats to start on the front row and it was Daughriety Jr. going flag to flag for the win. The Mt. Vernon driver and crew spent all week putting the Superman Racing #20 back together after last weeks crash in hot laps as it sat in victory lane for the second time this year. Swim tried to keep the pressure on Daughriety Jr. but he was being hounded by Brandon Craver and Bob Chilcote for second and Craver was able to get by with three laps to go for second as Chilcote and Paul Harringer followed.
Sheve’s Steve Miller was runner up the last two races in the Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stocks and would start second but this week would jump into the lead at the start and never look back to record his first Hilltop win aboard the Loudonville Tire, Advance Auto Parts & McKenzie Concrete #11. Blake ‘the Snake’ Morris of Zanesville stopped Donovan Dickerson’s winning streak at two as he won the Mini Wedge main for the first time this season. Dickerson expanded his points lead by taking second with Kyler Kidd, Tristen Lillibridge, and Josey Lillibridge rounding out the top five. The Morris Trucking #1 of Morris and Josey Lillibridge won the heats.
A full program is on tap for next Saturday night, July 23rd along with Driver’s Autograph night and Kid’s Night at Hilltop Speedway as fan’s can go into the pits after Hot laps and Qualifying to get autographs plus many prizes and games for the kids during the night.

Despite having 30 all time wins at Hilltop Speedway, Troy’s Brandon Gardner had not found victory lane so far this season, but that changed Saturday night in the Street Stock Invitational as he led all 20 laps to claim his first win of the year on Village Motors night. Dash winner and two time feature winner Ed Leasure kept the pressure on the Rowtac Inc, Innovative Graphics, and Team GLR #27g of Gardner early on but as the race wore on, fast qualifier Gardner would expand his lead lap after lap to win by a half straightaway over Leasure. Justin Patterson and Bob Chilcote battled for third from lap seven until the last lap when Chilcote’s machine slowed, allowing Patterson to secure third while defending track champ, Todd Swim took fourth as Kyle Dickinson recovered from causing a lap seven caution to fill out the top five. Last chance winner Bob Daugherty finished sixth as Timmy Glassburn, Chilcote, and Glen Underwood scored the heat wins.
Mansfielder’s Rocky Owens and Wayne Maffett Jr. won their heat races to start in the front row of the Holmes Tire Late Model feature with Owen’s taking the point at the drop of the green and held off Maffett Jr. all 25 laps. Maffett Jr.’s best chance came after three different restarts for cautions but the Oak Stone, Cates Auto Sales, and B- Dry #29 of Owens kept the door closed to park in Hilltop’s victory lane for the first time. Defending track champ, Charlie Duncan finished third as 13th starting George Lee worked his way up to fourth as a pair of #5’s battled for fifth with Norm Aronhalt out racing Ryan Markham for the spot.
There were two cautions before the first lap of the Tri State Modified feature could be put in the books and on the third attempt the action got going with Larry Kugel taking charge with Hanover’s Kevin Morehouse in his tire tracks for the first five laps before wrestling the lead away from Kugel and then breezing to his fifth win of the season aboard the Morehouse Logging, Diamond Race Cars, and Bruce Lingo #28. Seventh starting Josh Morrow worked his way through the field and took second from Kugel with seven circuits to go as Norm Aronhalt, who started 12th, and Gary Clark would power past Kugel for third and fourth with six laps to go and finish in that order. Kugel, Darrick Hubbard, Morehouse, and Clark won the heats as Ryan West and Matt Samples topped the two last chance races.
Terry Adkins of Killbuck went flag to flag for his fifth win of the year in the Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stock main. Steve Miller ran side by side the #49 machine of Adkins for the first three laps of the race and had passed Adkins for the lead but the caution flag came out before they got back to the line, giving the top spot back to Adkins and from that point on, Adkins pulled away. Chris Priebe challenged Miller late in the race but settled for third as points leader Gary Hensel Jr. moved past Dustin Daugherty on the last lap for fourth. Adkins and Miller were the heat winners.
Millersburg’s John Large popped into the lead at the drop of the green of the Atom’s Pest Control Truck feature and held off a couple of runs by Rolly Heyder to put the L & L Motors and Advance Auto Parts #17 in the winners circle for the first time in 2011. as Heyder finished a season best second. Gordon Zimmer held off the two points leaders, Kevin Potts and David Potts, for third as father and son finished fourth and fifth. Steve and John Large chalked up the heat wins.
It was a sweep for Donovan Dickerson as the Mansfield youngster won his heat race and then lead all the way in the Mini Wedge main to put the Imperial Truck Refinishing and Hooch Inc. #44 into victory lane for the second time. Blake Morris was closing fast but settled for second as Tristen Lillibridge, Taylor Huggins and Hannah Rose rounded out the top five.
Next Saturday, July 16th, will see the Atom’s Pest Control Trucks in the Hilltop Speedway spotlight as the winner will put $500 in their truck bed. All five other class’ will be in action beginning at 7: 30 pm

It was a highly competitive night at Hilltop Speedway for the 124 cars signed into the Hilltop Speedway pits on a beautiful night for racing. Dash winner Jason Flory took the lead of the Holmes Tire Late Model main with Wayne Maffet Jr. in his tire tracks with fast qualifier Charlie Duncan, Spud Myers and Thomas Baker in pursuit. As the early laps ticked by, Maffett Jr and Flory would go side by side as Warsaw’s Norm Aronhalt used his liking of the high groove to blow past Duncan, Myers and Baker for third and closed in on the two front runners. Coming out of turn four to start lap 11, Flory and Maffett Jr. made contact that would damage Flory’s ride and cause him to spin out, ending his night. Using the middle to low groove, Maffett Jr. held on the the lead but the Doan Ford, Lynn Excavating, Helms Home Improvement #5 of Aronhalt was flying in the extreme high groove. A lap 16 caution for a Dave Hornikel flat that also saw Duncan drop out put Baker, Myers, and J R Gentry into the top five but two laps later Myers and Gentry squeezed together on the front stretch to put them in the pits. On the restart, Aronhalt drove by Maffett Jr. for the lead and the last seven laps of the feature pull away for his second win of the year. Maffett Jr finished second as Hornikel came back and passed seven cars in the last seven laps to claim third as Baker ran fourth and for the second week in a row, Blaine Aber took fifth. Gentry and Mark Gardiner topped the heats.
Larry Kugel led the first lap of the Tri State Modified feature with Gary Clark taking over on lap two as they would go side by side, back and forth for the next seven laps before Clark would secure the lead for good on lap eight. The Nashport driver and his Morehouse Logging, Sam’s Used Cars and Diamond Race Cars #16 would build up a sizable lead as Kevin Morehouse moved into second on lap 12 but could not catch Clark, who scored his first ever win. Sam Lovejoy moved into third on lap 14 as dash winner Kugel was fading with Bruce Miller edging past him on the last lap for fourth. Matt Samples, Kyle Brown and Rory Reed gathered the heat wins with Robin Duston winning the last chance race. Morehouse and Lovejoy tied for quick time.
The top three of Bob Daugherty, Ed Leasure, and Brandon Craver were bunched together at the start of the Street Stock main with Daugherty using the low groove to secure the lead on lap five from Leasure as Craver was trying to use the high line to get past both but never could. The Mansfield based, Met’s Machine Shop, Adco Truck & Trailer Refinishing, and Char’s Cars #21d crossed the finish line with a six car length advantage. It was a four car battle for fourth and fifth as Tory Gibbs, Steve White, John Wilson and Jeff Votaw wheeled and dealed all race long before finishing in that order. Leasure, Daugherty, and Bob Chilcote paced the heats as Kenny Daughriety Jr. won the last chance race.
There looks like no way of stopping Killbuck’s Terry Adkins in the Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stocks as he goes flag to flag for his fifth win of the season and giving him his 14th career win at Hilltop Speedway to put him on the top of the list for all time Mini Stock wins. Steve Miller stayed within two car lengths of Adkins but never could make a serious run for the win. Jerry Adkins, Brad Hensel, Gary Hensel Jr., and Jason St. John spent the whole race changing positions before crossing the finish line that way. Brad and Gary Hensel Jr. and Terry Adkins scored the heat wins with Chris Priebe taking the last chance checkered flag.
The two heat winners, Bryan Lillibridge and David Potts of Sunbury, dueled at the start of the Atom’s Pest Control Truck feature and when the two bumped on lap three, Lillibridge suffered a flat tire. Jack Large would challenge David Potts for the next lap but mechanical woes stopped his challenge for the win. That would put David’s dad, Kevin into second with Rolly Heyder on their rear bumpers. The Proscape Landscaping, JWC Electrical Services, Tickets Galore #26 of David Potts would hold off all runs by Kevin Potts and Heyder for his first win of the season. Ben Brannon and Scott Gray filled out the top five.
Mansfield’s Donovan Dickerson and his Imperial Truck Refinishing and Hooch Inc. #44 chalked up his first Mini Wedge win by leading all ten laps as Hannah Rose, Taylor Huggins and Evan Large followed.

Although a late afternoon shower tried to interfere with the racing action Saturday at Hilltop Speedway, the rain cleared out by hot lap time and made for one fast racing surface as the full house of fans saw some close, tight racing in all class’. The TSMA Modifieds were the featured class with the $1500 to win Dirty 30 feature as Dash winner Jimmy Smith and Kevin Morehouse started on the front row with the ‘Logger’ securing the lead at the drop of the green flag. Jesse Wisecarver, Norm Aronhalt and Jess Hartman would quickly drop Smith back to fifth as Fast Qualifier Larry Kugel would move into fifth on lap four. As Wisecarver, Aronhalt, and Hartman would go side by side and nose to tail for second, Morehouse of Warsaw, would open up a half a straightaway lead. Working on lap 20, Hartman would get into Aronhalt going into turn one, spinning Aronhalt to bring out the caution and sending Hartman to the tail. On the restart with Wisecarver and Aronhalt using the high groove, Kugel hooked up with the very bottom of the track and powered his way into second with Josh Morrow sliding into fifth. Morrow, the third heat winner, would bring out the yellow flag three laps later as he hit the turn three guardrail. The last seven circuits would see Kugel able to pull up to the back bumper of the Morehouse Logging, Sam’s Used Cars, and Mark Rice Excavating #28 as that would be the closest he could get. For Morehouse, it would be win # 4 of the season and his 29th overall at Hilltop. Wisecarver held off Aronhalt for third while first heat winner Robin Duston beat out DJ Cline for fifth. Rick Mardis won the second heat as Anthony Kincaid bested the last chance race.
There was no lack of action in the Holmes Tire Late Model main as Dave Hornikel and Jason Flory dueled for the top spot for the first 16 laps with Hornikel leading and Flory trying every way he could to get by the dash winner. As they went at it for the top spot, Justin Chance and George Lee had a battle going for third with Kristin Flory riding fifth. Coming out of turn four at the end of lap 17, Flory was able to slip to the low side of Hornikel and make the pass to take the lead and from that point on, the Joe McIlvaine Trucking, Ray’s Garage, and JD Truck Leasing #02 pulled away as the Creston driver posted his First win of the year and his fourth all time at Hilltop. Hornikel held on to second as quick timer Chance kept Lee at bay for third. Blaine Aber took fifth as Kristin Flory’s car broke on the last lap. Thomas Baker and Wayne Maffett Jr. scored the heat wins.
Following three highly competitive Street Stock heat races that were won by Kenny Daughriety Jr., Ed Leasure and Brandon Gardner, the feature was the same way. Daughriety Jr. set the pace for the first two laps and following a lap 2 caution for Kyle Dickinson, Cambridge’s Leasure would swipe the point away from Daughriety Jr. with Gardner and Justin Patterson right behind the two leaders. Leasure and his Lloyd’s Towing & Service and Sararhsville Storage #88 would never have any breathing room as he used the middle groove while Daughriety Jr., Gardner, and Patterson tried high and low to no avail. Coming to the checkered flag, Daughriety Jr. spun coming out of turn four which put Gardner into second with Patterson third. Glen Underwood and Brandon Craver filled out the top five behind the two time winner, Leasure. The last chance winner was John Wilson.
James Priebe was the front runner for the first nine laps of the Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stocks but Killbuck’s Terry Adkins had the pressure cooker on all that time and with two laps to go, edged past Priebe and the #49 machine of Adkins went to victory circle for the fourth time this year and his 13th overall. Just like all the other class’, there was no lack of action in the middle of the pack for the Mini Stocks either as Jason St. John passed Gary Hensel Jr. with two to go for third while Steve Miller battled off Chase Alexander and Jerry Adkins for fifth. Blaine Markey, Hensel Jr. and Priebe topped the heats.
For the first time this season, the V-8 Cruisers took to the Hilltop Speedway surface and although he went flag to flag for the win, Mansfields Seth Dickerson had his hands full as David Potts, Kevin Potts and Steve Foley all took their shots at the Olivesburg General Store, Beck Farms, and Ashland Auto Salvage #35 of Dickerson. David Potts put the most heat on Dickerson through out the race but on the last lap he and Foley bumped and that would allow Kevin Potts to take second in front of those two as Pauly Hess filled out the top five. Jack Large won the heat but did not start the feature.
It was a clean sweep for Zanesville’s Landon Wetzel in the Mini Wedge class as the ‘Viper’ won the heat and then claimed his second feature of the year aboard the Wetzel Motorsports #11w. Dyllyn Wyer, Scott Perine, Donovan Dickerson, Hannah Rose and Blake Morris rounded out the field.

By winning the dash, Wooster’s Doug Drown started the Holmes County 30 on the pole and went flag to flag for the win in the Holmes Tire Super Late Model feature Saturday night at Hilltop Speedway. Driving the DJ Miller owned #1dj, Drown rocketed out to a big lead before the first caution came out for fast qualifier Steve Prince and Eric Myers as they got together while dueling for fourth at the time and Prince was charged with the caution and sent to the tail. As the green flag came back out, Cody Parker tried to stay with Drown with Myers, Shane McLoughlin, and Charlie Duncan in pursuit. At the halfway mark, McLoughlin moved past Myers for third. A debris caution flew on lap 17 to bunch the field back up but on the restart Drown would once again pull away with Parker chasing in second and McLoughlin in third and with ten laps to go Duncan powered past Myers for fourth while Jason Flory took fifth on the next circuit. As the laps ticked off, Drown kept expanding his lead and when the checkered flag flew, had more than a straightaway lead over Parker. McLoughlin held on to third from his eighth starting place while last years track champ, Duncan, was fourth after starting tenth and 11th starting Flory rounded out the top five. Heat wins were claimed by Dave Hornikel, McLoughlin, and Bryan Casey. The last chance race went to Devin Moran.
The Tri State Modifieds had double duty this week with Sunbury’s Rob Stambaugh taking the point on the second lap of the make up feature from Sam Lovejoy and then holding off a late charge from Kevin Morehouse to claim his first win at Hilltop aboard the Dependable Machining #67. Lovejoy kept Norm Aronhalt at bay to finish third while Robin Duston charged from his 11th starting position to grab fifth. Darrick Hubbard and Morehouse would go back and forth for the top spot of the regular feature with the Morehouse Logging #28 grasping the lead for good at the halfway mark as Morehouse would chalk up his 26th career win at Hilltop. Lovejoy, Stambaugh, opening night winner Jesse Wiscarver and Anthony Kincaid were battling for third and at the end Lovejoy held third followed by Wisecarver and Kincaid in the top five. Last years track champ, Hilton Eppley and Aronhalt won the last chance races with Hubbard, Morehouse, Lovejoy and Stambaugh paced the heat races.
Brandon Craver set the early pace for the Street Stock main but when he slipped on lap three, Mansfield’s Bob Daugherty took over and the Char’s Cars #21d fended off a charge by Rich Frame before mechanical woes put Frame out of action with three laps to go. Brad Parker would move into second at that point with Craver, Tim Glassburn, who was the opening night winner, John Wilson and Josh Miller in pursuit as they would finish in that order behind Daugherty. In post race inspection, Parker was disqualified, moving everyone up a place. Posting heat wins were Craver, Glassburn, and Frame with Kenny Daughriety Jr. notching the last chance race.
Killbuck’s Jason St. John, driving a new Bargain Shed #4 after flipping last week, made a last lap pass on race long leader Terry Adkins to take the Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stock feature win. St John had worked all race trying to take the lead from two time winner Adkins. Jerry Adkins, Chase Alexander, Steve Miller and Gary Hensel Jr. were packed together in a race long battle for a top five finish as they crossed the line in that order. Terry Adkins, St. John, and Jerry Adkins chalked up the heat wins.
The Circle Track Trucks also did double duty work with Coshocton’s Jack Large and his Performance Auto #07 leading all the way in the make up main for the win as David Potts trying to chase him down. Kevin Potts worked his way from starting 13th to take third ahead of opening night winner Tom Garlick with Mitch Caskey getting fifth. After winning the heats for the regular program, Sunbury’s Kevin and David Potts put on a family feud for the feature win with Proscape Landscaping #8k of Kevin (Dad) showing Kevin (Son) the way around Hilltop Speedway. Garlick ran third with Jack Large in fourth and Steve Large rounding out the top five.
In his first visit to Hilltop, Zanesville’s Landon Wetzel added his name to the winners list of the Mini Wedges as he took the lead from Dyllyn Wyer on lap three. Driving the Wetzel Motorsports #11, Wetzel was followed by Wyer, Levi Bowen, Tanner Johnson and Donovan Dickerson. topping the heats were Wetzel and Wyer.

Action was once again highly competitive at Hilltop Speedway on Susan’s Sportswear and Spare ECM night as the fans saw three Mansfield drivers dominate winners circle. Dash winner Steve Prince and Mansfield’s Wayne Maffett Jr. went side by side for the first lap of the Holmes Tire Super Late Model main when Maffett Jr. inched ahead to secure the lead. Maffett Jr. and his Johnny Biggs, Rod Eddleblutes Garage, and Lucas-Day Racing #40 could never shake Prince as he tried every way he could to get by Maffett Jr. but never found the way to make the pass. Fast qualifier Corey Conley was waiting in the wings for the two leaders to slip up but he had his hands full with Jason Flory for third. Flory was much like Prince as he tried every trick he knew to get past Conley to no avail. First heat winner Kristen Flory moved into fifth on lap nine and held off a late race run by second heat winner Mark Banal to claim fifth. Bryan Casey led the way in the last chance race.
Gary Clark won the dash to start on the pole of the Tri State Modified feature and outdueled Darrick Hubbard for the first three laps as quick timer Kevin Morehouse powered past Robin Duston for third at that point of the race. Two laps later, Morehouse of Hanover, moved past Hubbard for second and set sail for Clark. The Morehouse Logging, Sam’s Used Cars, and Service Welding #28 used the middle groove to pass the low running Clark on lap nine and then cruise on the win. Clark kept DJ Cline at bay the last four laps to keep the runner up spot as Duston and Hubbard rounded out the top five. Heat wins went to Matt Samples, Norm Aronhalt and Rick Mardis while Eric Singhaus and Nick Smith scored the last chance wins.
Mansfield’s Bob Daugherty and Bob Chilcote won the heats for the Street Stocks to start on the front row of the feature and the Char’s Cars, Met’s Machine Shop, and McKenzie Concrete #21d of Daugherty would lead all the way after holding off Chilcote early in the race then a late run by Justin Patterson late. Chilcote secured third after a charge by Kenny Daughriety Jr. and Joey Spearman took home fifth.
The closest feature of the night went to the Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stocks as it started with Mansfield’s Bobby Stamper on the outside front row grabbing the lead at the drop of the green flag with points leader Terry Adkins right behind the Wright Choice Auto Sales #1. It was nose to tail all race long for those two with James Priebe squeezing his way in with three laps to go and as they crossed the finish line, all three were less than a car length apart with Stamper, Adkins and Priebe in that order with Gary Hensel Jr. and Mike Rose filling out the top five. Adkins, Hensel Jr. and Dustin Daugherty posted the heat wins.
Sunbury’s Kevin Potts and his Proscape Landscaping, JWC Electrical Services, and Eagle Insurance #8k went flag to flag for the win in the Atom’s Pest Control Truck main. A caution flag with two laps to go gave Jack Large a shot at Potts but it was too short of time for Large to make a pass on Potts. David Potts was third followed by John Large and 75 year old Ken Duncan. Kevin Potts and Stan Braxton topped the heat races.
Briyant Worthy of Philo was the first to see the checkered flag in the Mini Wedge feature with Levi Bowen, Dyllyn Wyer, Hannah Rose and Triston Lillibridge following. Hannah Rose won the Girls heat race as Dyllyn Wyer paced the Boys heat race.
Next up at Hilltop Speedway will be the Mid Season Championships on Saturday June 4th.

The best weather of the season for racing brought at 130+ cars, another big crowd and highly competitive racing on Drivers Autograph night at Hilltop Speedway Saturday. The evening started out with the finish of the Holmes Tire Super Late Model main from April 30th with Wooster’s Doug Drown the leader after the opening 5 rounds were in the books before the rains hit that night. As the race restarted, Drown quickly opened up a sizable gap between he and Cody Parker and the rest of the field as Charlie Duncan, Norm Aronhalt, Ryan Markham and Wayne Maffett Jr. were bunched together for third and changing positions on each lap. With three to go, Parker’s left front went flat to bring out the caution and brought Drown back to the field. It was a green, white, checkered finish as Drown and his DJ Directional Services, Wooster Glass, and Massillon Transmission #12d motored away to pocket his second win of the season and 16th overall at Hilltop. Duncan held on to second as Aronhalt powered past Markham with two to go or third as Maffett Jr. secured fifth.
Next up was the make up feature for the Street Stocks from April 30 with Brandon Gardner taking the point at the drop of the green and Cambridge’s Ed Leasure busting a move from his sixth starting slot to take second in a less than a lap. Those two would put on a side by side dogfight for the lead with the Lloyd’s Towing & Service #88 securing the lead on lap nine and held off one last run by Gardner for his first Hilltop win. Glen Underwood fought off a couple of different drivers throughout the race for third as opening night winner Timmy Glassburn squeezed by Kenny Daughriety Jr. with two to go for fourth.
In the regular nights action, the Holmes Tire Super Late Model main had the fans all a buzz and wondering what was going to happen next as front row starters Cody Parker and Ryan Markham dueled side by side for the top spot while Wayne Maffett Jr. and Doug Drown were right behind them for third. They would both would slip past Parker on lap 11. Going into turn one on lap 14, Markham slipped and banged the guardrail to bring out the yellow and putting the running order at Maffett Jr. the leader with Drown, Parker, Jason Flory, and Aronhalt. Three laps later, Drown put the slide move on Maffett Jr. for the lead in turn one but got too sideways, slowing his momentum and Maffett Jr. made contact with Drown but Drown was charged with the caution and Maffett Jr. kept the lead with an ailing vehicle. On the restart, Warsaw’s Aronhalt grabbed second away from Parker and set sail on Maffett Jr. by using the extreme high groove and with four laps to go, took the lead and go on to put the Lynn Ford, Oak Hills, and Helm’s Home Improvement #5 into victory lane for the first time and his third all time Late Model win at Hilltop. Parker held off Flory for third and a late charge gave Corey Conley fifth. DJ Cline topped the last chance race with Parker, Markham, Drown and Garrett Krummart scoring the heat wins.
After donating an old helmet to a lucky fan, Hanover’s Kevin Morehouse went flag to flag for his second Tri State Modified win of the season and his 27th at Hilltop Speedway aboard the Morehouse Logging, Sam’s Used Cars and Diamond Racecars #28. Nathan Loney hung with Morehouse for the first five laps before giving way to DJ Cline. A lap 12 caution would pack the field together but the ‘Logger’ would speed away and the attention turned to the battle for third between Gary Clark, Matt Samples and Aronhalt and with two to go, Aronhalt bumped the turn one guardrail and bruise his machine and limp back to the pits as Nick Smith would take fifth behind Clark and Samples. Rick Mardis and Hilton Eppley paced the last chance races with heat wins being claimed by Loney, Morehouse, Matt Samples and Cline.
Side by side action highlighted the regular Street Stock feature as Brad Parker was scored the leader of the opening ten circuits with Kenny Daughriety Jr. right with him with Brandon Gardner on both of them. Behind them were Justin Patterson, Todd Swim, Leasure and Glassburn. Mt. Vernon’s Daughrierty Jr. and his Service Welding Supplies #20 was able to sneak into the lead with five to go and fought off every charge from Parker and capture his first ever win at Hilltop. Gardner held on to third with Patterson winning fourth over Swim. Bob Chilcote and Leasure won the last chance races with heat wins going to Parker, Daughriety Jr., Glen Underwood and Gardner.
Killbuck’s Terry Adkins tacked on his third win of the season in the Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stocks as the #49 machine went wire to wire for his 12th all time Hilltop win. Jerry Adkins was pestered by Steve Miller for second but a late race run by Jordan James and a pass at the finish line gave James third over Miller with Chase Alexander rounding out the top five. Mark and Jerry Adkins and Alexander collected the heat wins. Kevin Markey was the last chance winner as only three cars transferred and after two laps only three were running for the shortened event.
An emotional night for the Circle Track trucks as they did a couple of tribute laps to honor Gail ‘Wally’ Wallace who died of cancer over a week ago as Mitch Ling drove Wallace’s truck around in front of all the other trucks, who all had a black stripe through their numbers. The feature was one of those that you had to see to believe the ending of it. John Large had David and Kevin Potts all over his truck bed with Jack Large on their tail. On the white flag lap, John got sideways and both Potts had let up and swerve to avoid contact and that would allow Jack to jump all three and take the lead and coming out of turn four for the checkered flag, the Large’s made contact, never let off the gas and John pushed Jack sideways across the finish line as Jack Large and his Coshocton based Perfomance Auto #07 would win for the second time this year. John Large was second with David and Kevin Potts third and fourth and Rolly Heyder filling out the top five. Kyle Cline, Jack Large and Kevin Potts notched the heat races.
Zanesville’s Chase Osbourne took the lead on lap three and breeze to his second Mini Wedge victory of the season aboard the Bates Auto, The Barn, and Bart Hartman Racing #75. Dyllyn Wyer was second followed by Briyant Worthy, Josey Lillibridge and Triston Lillibridge. Heat winners were Wyer and Phil Bubeck. Next week the Mini Wedges will run an all girl heat race and an all boy heat race to set up their feature.

By winning the dash, Wooster’s Doug Drown started the Holmes County 30 on the pole and went flag to flag for the win in the Holmes Tire Super Late Model feature Saturday night at Hilltop Speedway. Driving the DJ Miller owned #1dj, Drown rocketed out to a big lead before the first caution came out for fast qualifier Steve Prince and Eric Myers as they got together while dueling for fourth at the time and Prince was charged with the caution and sent to the tail. As the green flag came back out, Cody Parker tried to stay with Drown with Myers, Shane McLoughlin, and Charlie Duncan in pursuit. At the halfway mark, McLoughlin moved past Myers for third. A debris caution flew on lap 17 to bunch the field back up but on the restart Drown would once again pull away with Parker chasing in second and McLoughlin in third and with ten laps to go Duncan powered past Myers for fourth while Jason Flory took fifth on the next circuit. As the laps ticked off, Drown kept expanding his lead and when the checkered flag flew, had more than a straightaway lead over Parker. McLoughlin held on to third from his eighth starting place while last years track champ, Duncan, was fourth after starting tenth and 11th starting Flory rounded out the top five. Heat wins were claimed by Dave Hornikel, McLoughlin, and Bryan Casey. The last chance race went to Devin Moran.
The Tri State Modifieds had double duty this week with Sunbury’s Rob Stambaugh taking the point on the second lap of the make up feature from Sam Lovejoy and then holding off a late charge from Kevin Morehouse to claim his first win at Hilltop aboard the Dependable Machining #67. Lovejoy kept Norm Aronhalt at bay to finish third while Robin Duston charged from his 11th starting position to grab fifth. Darrick Hubbard and Morehouse would go back and forth for the top spot of the regular feature with the Morehouse Logging #28 grasping the lead for good at the halfway mark as Morehouse would chalk up his 26th career win at Hilltop. Lovejoy, Stambaugh, opening night winner Jesse Wiscarver and Anthony Kincaid were battling for third and at the end Lovejoy held third followed by Wisecarver and Kincaid in the top five. Last years track champ, Hilton Eppley and Aronhalt won the last chance races with Hubbard, Morehouse, Lovejoy and Stambaugh paced the heat races.
Brandon Craver set the early pace for the Street Stock main but when he slipped on lap three, Mansfield’s Bob Daugherty took over and the Char’s Cars #21d fended off a charge by Rich Frame before mechanical woes put Frame out of action with three laps to go. Brad Parker would move into second at that point with Craver, Tim Glassburn, who was the opening night winner, John Wilson and Josh Miller in pursuit as they would finish in that order behind Daugherty. In post race inspection, Parker was disqualified, moving everyone up a place. Posting heat wins were Craver, Glassburn, and Frame with Kenny Daughriety Jr. notching the last chance race.
Killbuck’s Jason St. John, driving a new Bargain Shed #4 after flipping last week, made a last lap pass on race long leader Terry Adkins to take the Guerne Heights Drive Inn Mini Stock feature win. St John had worked all race trying to take the lead from two time winner Adkins. Jerry Adkins, Chase Alexander, Steve Miller and Gary Hensel Jr. were packed together in a race long battle for a top five finish as they crossed the line in that order. Terry Adkins, St. John, and Jerry Adkins chalked up the heat wins.

Kevin Potts worked his way from starting 13th to take third ahead of opening night winner Tom Garlick with Mitch Caskey getting fifth. After winning the heats for the regular program, Sunbury’s Kevin and David Potts put on a family feud for the feature win with Proscape Landscaping #8k of Kevin (Dad) showing Kevin (Son) the way around Hilltop Speedway. Garlick ran third with Jack Large in fourth and Steve Large rounding out the top five.
In his first visit to Hilltop, Zanesville’s Landon Wetzel added his name to the winners list of the Mini Wedges as he took the lead from Dyllyn Wyer on lap three. Driving the Wetzel Motorsports #11, Wetzel was followed by Wyer, Levi Bowen, Tanner Johnson and Donovan Dickerson. topping the heats were Wetzel and Wyer.
